EMPOWER T2i is an education program for people living with Type 2 diabetes using insulin as part of their treatment, delivered by credentialled diabetes educators endorsed by Spirit Healthcare.
EMPOWER T2i is designed to help you understand what Type 2 diabetes is, the effect it has on your body and how to make small, achievable changes to the food you eat and your everyday life.
The course focuses on diet, exercise and lifestyle changes, and setting personal goals to support you in living with diabetes. We cover a range of topics including insulin, blood glucose monitoring, preventing and managing a hypo and sick days.
Our aim is to help you work towards achieving optimal glycaemic control and reduce the risk of long-term health complications.
EMPOWER T2n is available to all patients registered with a GP in North Tyneside that are living with Type 2 diabetes and are aged 18 years or over.
The program includes two modules. Module 1 will be completed online in your own time and once complete you will take module 2.
Module 2 is a group session with between 6 and 12 other people, led by a credentialled diabetes educator. This will be either be virtually or face to face.
Each module will take approximately two hours to complete.
Courses are run during the day, with evening and weekend courses also available.
At the moment, all courses are run online due to COVID-19.

Attending a diabetes education course is a very important part of learning how to self-manage your diabetes and help avoid long-term health complications.
You are welcome to bring a carer, family member or friend to support you.
